OCTOBER 11, 1996 GAY PEOPle's ChroNICLE 19

ELECTION 1996

Columbus area federal, state, and local offices

5. B. In principle, I need to study it more, but it may be that the Constitution of the United States would require respecting the laws of another state; for example, my Ohio driver's license is valid in Hawaii. If the issue of same gender marriages being recognized by Ohio arose, I think open, creative dialogue would [unreadable].

6. C. Anybody who is willing to serve honorably and fulfill those duties should be allowed to do so. (The military survived desegregation, too.)

7. B. I am not familiar with Ohio's spending levels, nor with how much they coordinate or duplicate federal spending. The Natural Law Party supports reimbursement for proven, cost effective complementary/alternative therapy.

8. This is a very tough question, without kids of my own, I'm not that familiar with what Ohio currently does. How much information is enough, and how much is "too much," may be difficult to set on a state wide basis vs. local basis.

9. Yes. Do I think they should be allowed to? Definitely yes. Should they be required to? This calls for some creative thinking, for example, should a person with no partner (hetero/homo) be able to designate someone?

10. Yes. I would treat these organizations the same as any other. (My campaign is lowbudget and I do not expect to be issuing a lot of press releases).

Also endorsed by Ohioans Against Discrimination.

1. Yes. A person's sexual orientation has nothing to do with job performance, and should not affect hiring decisions. 2. No.

3. Yes. I think this policy would be the best way to protect individual rights without violating anyone's religious beliefs.

4. Yes.

5. B. I am opposed to any legislation that interferes with the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution. In addition, I believe that it is appropriate to provide equal access to marriage for everyone, particularly since there is not a consensus within the gay community on the idea of marriage. Equal access would allow gays and lesbians, like straights to marry if they want to.

6. A.

7. A. Spending should be increased because AIDS is still a huge public health risk, and many people are still not educated on high risk behaviors.

8. Yes. I believe that teenagers should have this information in case they need it. 9. No. [Unreadable] 10. Yes.

2. No. Chapter 2331, Cols. City Code, prohibits such discrimination

3. Yes. Chapter 2331, Cols. City Code, prohibits such discrimination.

4. Yes. The Cols. City Code includes sexual orientation under the city ethnic intimidation law and as City Atty. the office has prosecuted such

cases.

5. Since I am not seeking a legislative office I would not expect to vote on such issue, and would not expect to influence such proposed legislation.

6. In either my current or office being sought, I do not expect to vote upon or influence military or armed forces policy on this or other issues.

7. I do not know the current level of such spending in the state budget; but AIDS funding for education and research should be a priority at state and federal levels as part of Health Dept. budgets.

8. No.

9. No objection if sought, offered or negotiated by private employers, but the government should not either required or prohibit private employers from offering such benefits.

10. I have been endorsed in my three elections for City Attorney by the Columbus Stonewall Union, and accepted and acknowledged that endorsement with others that were received.

4. Yes. If such legislation is enacted, I would enforce it as vigorously as I would enforce any other law in the State of Ohio.

5. While I would not actively support or oppose such legislation, I personally have serious reservations concerning same gender marriages.

6. A and C. The current "don't ask, don't tell" policy is acceptable, I personally prefer that such matters be covered by the current heterosexual code.

7. A. AIDS is a serious national health problem that deserves the full and immediate attention of both State and Federal governments. It is imperative that funding be made available for research and development of a cure.

8. On a personal level, I have a problem with sexuality classes in general. Especially those at the elementary level. However, such decisions are up to the state and local boards of education and not the sheriff.
